CAN I ONLY GET INDIVIDUAL HEALTH INSURANCE DURING ANNUAL ENROLLMENT? No, you can get it during Annual Enrollment or outside of that with a Special Enrollment situation.
WHAT IS SPECIAL ENROLLMENT? Special Enrollment is a life changing event such as moving (zip codes), getting married or divorced, losing group health insurance through an employer, turning 26 and aging off of a parent’s plan, having a baby, etc. A special enrollment situation allows you to enroll in an individual health plan if it’s not annual enrollment.
CAN I GET AN INDIVIDUAL HEALTH PLAN IF I HAVE ACCESS TO GROUP INSURANCE AND/OR COBRA? If it is during Annual Enrollment and you currently have COBRA, you can go off the COBRA onto an Individual Health plan. If you have access to group insurance, if the cost of that insurance is more than a certain percentage (an Agent can give you more info on this and help you to figure this amount) then you can actually go on an Individual Health plan.
DO I HAVE TO HAVE AN INCOME TO GET ON THE MARKETPLACE FOR INSURANCE? Yes you have to make a certain amount in order to qualify for a subsidy (advanced premium tax credit) towards your health insurance premium and you also have to make under a certain amount as well depending on your household size and household income. You can get a plan “OFF” Marketplace without a subsidy and then income does not play a role in this premium.
WHAT IF I HAVE A HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN AND IT DOESN’T WORK FOR ME? Annual Enrollment is the time to explore a plan change and to compare what else is available.
WHAT IF I HAVE AN INDIVIDUAL HEALTH PLAN ON THE MARKETPLACE AND NEED TO MAKE UPDATES SUCH AS INCOME OR ADDRESS, ETC TO IT? Updates to your Marketplace account can be made any time, but Annual Enrollment is an excellent time to do this as well. It’s especially important to keep your Income, Address, Phone and Email address information updated and current.
HOW DO I GET HELP WITH MY CURRENT HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN? Contact your local Agent and schedule a time to look over your renewal for next year and/or check with your insurance company for any renewal information that’s been sent to you for the next year.
